Describea place that you have been to that has alot of water.

You shouldsay:

where this placeis

what peopledo at this place

why(& when) you went there

andexplain whether you like this place ornot.

My hometown is famous for springs. In the centre of our city, there are a group of springs located together. They all flow intoone lower pool. People name it Black Tiger Spring. It hasbecome a symbol for my city and attracted crowds of local citizensand tourists.

Summer is the best time to visit the spring, especially on a hotday, because spring water makes the air cool down, plus there aretrees providing shelters. All these have contributed to thepopularity of this place. People living nearby like to come tofetch spring water. It’s also a paradise for fishing lovers. Oldmen could spend a whole morning there fishing. They seem to enjoythemselves a lot. At weekends, English learners come and gettogether to have English corner. Calligraphy lovers practicewriting characters on the ground with a huge brush pen and springwater as ink.

A few decades ago, there were even more springs flowing. For onetime, the rapid developing industries consumed a lot of water. Somesprings therefore become dry. However, in recent years, the localgovernment has been working on reconstructing the city’sunderground water system to make dried springs flow again. They dida good job. Springs now come back into our life.

I was there last July. It rained slightly that day, which madethe trip kind of romantic, as you could see rain needles dippinginto the water surface. I walked along the pool, feeling sopeaceful in mind. I like the place, and I will go thereagain.

Part 3

Water Usage

Do you think people use more water today than they didbefore (e.g., 20 or 50 years ago)?

I think so. First of all, industry is the largest user of water. We are now having more industries. Industry requires a great amountof water. So, more water is being used. The second largest user ofwater is domestic use. People use more, drink more, and most sadly, waste more.

Do you think it's important to try to save (conserve)water? (Why?)

It is of vital importance for human beings to save water. Weneed water – our lives depend on it. We all know that the world’spopulation is getting larger day by day. More water is beingconsumed. At the same time, there are many places on this worldwhere people are suffering from lack of drinking water. Water is aprecious resource. It is urgent to save water from beingwasted.

How can people save water?

Water conservation has two aspects: one, use waterefficiently so that there is enough for the needs of all livingthings; two, keep freshwater clean, so that it can continue tosupport life on Earth. As an ordinary citizen, I appreciate what myfamily does in saving water. We reuse used water. It’s simple. I’vealways believed that if every family devotes its own effort, watersaving will no longer be a mission impossible.

What are the main ways that water is used in thehome?

In the home we use water to brush teeth, to take a bath, toflush toilets, to wash face and hands, to wash dishes and clothes,to shave legs, to prepare food and clean up, and to drink.

Water Resources

What water resources do you think are most important forprotection and conservation?

Freshwater is most important for protection and conservation.More than two thirds of the Earth is covered by water but less than1% is freshwater – 97% is too salty and the rest is ice. No onewould disagree with me on this issue. I am sure about this.Obviously, without water, people cannot live.

What measures do you suggest the government could do toprotect these resources?

Government should make laws against water wasting and pollution. As for factories, they should be forbidden from pouring industrialwaste into rivers. Otherwise they will get sever punishment. It isthe government’s responsibility to educate the community about howto save water and encourage consumers to be water efficientin thehome and garden,in business and at school.

Is the way people use water today the same as the waypeople used to use water, say, 50 years ago?

I should say NO. In the past, water doesn’t seem to be aproblem. People don’t usually suffer from lack of fresh water. Butnow it is a problem. As a result, people are becoming increasinglyconscious of water being a precious resource. Water-saving washingmachines have been produced; the idea of water recycling getspopular among families; water-saving is seen as a good virtue.

What are the reasons for water shortages in (parts of )China?

There are both geographical and humans’ reason for watershortage in parts of China. Geographically, there is imbalanceamong areas in terms of rainfall. Places with less rainfall aremore likely to suffer from water shortage. For the human beings’part, big cities with large population consume huge amount of waterevery day. This could cause water shortage, too.
